Celebrating Roald Dahl

The Welsh Books Council, in partnership with Mewn Cymeriad, will celebrate the life and work of Roald Dahl.

To mark 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl, this Sunday (13 September) the Welsh Books Council, in partnership with Mewn Cymeriad, will announce that they will be celebrating the life and work of the author by launching a special show on World Book Day on 3 March 2016. The dramatic performance, presenting the life and work of Dahl in a light-hearted and interactive manner, will be suitable for children between the ages of seven and eleven.

Welsh Children’s Poet, Anni Llŷn, will script the show, and Angharad Tomos, Reading Promotion Project Manager with the Welsh Books Council, says it is an excellent way of reinforcing the work that happens during the whole year to promote reading for pleasure and to improve literacy skills. Angharad explained:

‘The show will travel around Wales providing an hour of educational entertainment for children at Key Stage 2. The hope is that children will be inspired by the excitement of the show and will go on to read in their spare time. There will also be an educational pack full of activities to accompany the show.’

The show will visit schools and libraries on World Book Day and during the following months. If you would like the show to visit your area, please get in touch with us.

Spread the love
