A stark reminder that nobody in Rhondda Cynon Taf has any business Fly-tipping in their community!

A local car garage owner has driven away with a costly court fine of over £4,100 for failing to control their waste and fly-tipping hazardous items in the community on TWO separate occasions.

The items were found fly-tipped at a bin collection point near a residential area and consisted of FIVE double bagged black bags of garage paperwork, gloves, car parts and boxes. The Enforcement officer looked through the items and was able to trace the potential offender. Just over a week later the Enforcement officer revisited the area and discovered that another FOUR black bags of garage paperwork, car parts, rags, and oil filters had been dumped by the same garage.

The Enforcement officer carried out further checks and the offender was asked to attend an interview, which the person failed to attend. A further request was sent to come in for an interview which was once again declined.

The case was then referred to Magistrate Court to be dealt with, for failing to control trade waste and committing an offence under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The fact that this business owner failed to engage with the Council officers and didn’t attend court, clearly shows his complete disregard for what he had done. There is never an excuse to fly-tip and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council WILL hold those responsible to account for their actions.

Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure said:

“Fly-tipping in our County Borough will not be tolerated, there is NEVER an excuse to blight our towns, streets and villages with waste and we will find those responsible and hold them to account.

"As this case highlights, we investigate ALL reports of fly-tipping and we will uncover all the details as this offender has found out.

"Removal of fly-tipping in our County Borough costs hundreds of thousands of pounds – which could be spent on key front-line services.

“We will use EVERY power we have available to us, to hold those accountable for their actions.”
