Caroline Lucas urges voters to back Plaid Cymru candidates where Greens aren't standing
Caroline Lucas of the Green Party has urged all Welsh voters to back their local Plaid Cymru candidate in all constituencies where no Green candidate is standing.
She has also specifically called on on Green supporters in Arfon to vote for Plaid Cymru’s Hywel Williams at the General Election on May 7.
Caroline Lucas said:
“I've worked with Hywel over the last five years and know him to be someone with a strong commitment to social and environmental justice.
"Just as Plaid Cymru have urged voters in England to back the Green party, if there is no Green candidate standing, I would urge Welsh voters to back candidates like Hywel Williams.”
Plaid Cymru candidate for Arfon, Hywel Williams said:
“Plaid Cymru has a good and productive working relationship with the Green Party in Westminster.
"For the last five years we have acted very much as a group and this has been a great success; securing debates on austerity, opposing Labour and Tory cuts and the scandalous proposal to renew the Trident nuclear weapons system at a cost of £100 billion.
"Jointly we oppose fracking and are determined that this environmentally-damaging method is not imposed on our communities.
"We have urged people in England to vote for the Green Party and I’m very grateful to Caroline for this endorsement of Plaid Cymru and myself as Plaid’s candidate for Arfon.”
