Boost for the 2017 Eisteddfod Fund

With almost a year and a half to go before the National Eisteddfod is held on Anglesey, the festival fund has received a great financial boost.

The financial prize of £5,000 for the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize will be given by Ann Clwyd, the MP for Cwm Cynon.  The prize is donated in memory of her late husband, Owen Dryhurst Roberts, a television journalist who was Head of News and Current Affairs at both HTV and BBC Wales.

He was brought up in Newborough, Anglesey, and it is fitting that Ann Clwyd wishes to donate her gift through the Rhosyr local Appeal Committee in his memory.

Chairman of the Anglesey National Eisteddfod Executive Committee, Derec Llwyd Morgan, said, “We are very grateful to Ann Clwyd for her generosity in donating the financial prize for this competition.

“The Daniel Owen Memorial Prize is one of the Eisteddfod’s main competitions, and we are pleased that it will be presented in memory of a man as notable as Owen Dryhurst Roberts.”

The Daniel Owen Memorial Prize at the Anglesey National Eisteddfod will be presented for an unpublished novel with a strong storyline, with no less than 50,000 words.  The adjudicators are Bethan Gwanas, Tony Bianchi and Caryl Lewis, and the closing date is 1 December this year.
