Bogus callers in Aberdare

Officers in Aberdare are reminding homeowners to be wary of bogus callers after men purporting to be from the water board called at a house in Gurnos and stole money from a 77 year old lady.

The incident occurred on Monday 8th January around 2.35pm.

Detective Sergeant David Welham explains: “We are reminding the public that criminals sometimes use a tactic where they pretend to be from a company, for example, the water board, electricity or gas supplier, to trick their way into a house. They often target the most vulnerable members or our communities and it is important that the public are aware of the tactics they use.

“It must be stressed that this happens rarely, however once inside, they thieves will search for things to steal, usually cash or jewellery and then make their escape without the householder realising that anything has been taken until later.”

We are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the burglary. In particular we are appealing for information about a silver Ford Transit van which was seen in the area of Lakeside Gardens between 2pm and 3pm on Monday 8th January.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact us 101 quoting reference number 1600044473.

If you wish to remain anonymous you can pass information to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
