BBC CYMRU WALES AND SPORT WALES LAUNCH WALES SPORT AWARDS 2015

BBC Cymru Wales and Sport Wales have today (Tuesday, September 1) started the search for Welsh sport’s brightest stars of 2015.

 

The Welsh public now have the chance to get involved in Wales’ sporting showcase and ensure their own sporting hero is honoured for their achievements.

 

After the success of the inaugural Wales Sport Awards event in 2013, the country’s biggest annual celebration of the very best elite and grassroots sport continues to inspire nominations from all over Wales.

 

The Wales Sport Awards will take place on Monday, December 7 at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff when among the prizes to be handed out will be the prestigious Coach of the Year and BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year awards.

 

The Welsh public have their chance to nominate people for the grassroots awards. Nominations open on Tuesday, September 1 and close on Friday, September 25.

 

The categories open for nomination are:

 

  • Young Coach of the Year
  • Community Coach of the Year
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year
  • Coach to Disabled People of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award (Community)

 

Also awarded at the ceremony is the BBC Get Inspired Unsung Hero prize with the Welsh representative going on to compete against winners from the English regions, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Nominees from previous years, who didn’t take the top prize, can be nominated again this year.

 

The overall winner will be announced at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year programme in Belfast on Sunday, December 20.

 

Nominations for this category close on Thursday, October 22.

“As part of the panel I always find it inspiring to learn about the finalists and their amazing achievements. Sport is part of the fabric of Welsh life and recognising the impact of people who often go unnoticed is vital if we are to cement our importance at the heart of communities in Wales.

 

“We want more people to be part of our sporting workforce if we are going to keep participation levels rising and we need to show how important they are.

 

“We rely on public nominations to select the individuals who are heroes to so may, so I’d urge you all to take the time to do so.”
