Aberdare Community School Official Opening

A huge thank you to all the staff and pupils who worked so hard to make our official opening such a great success. We were proud to have a visit from the First Minister for Wales who also visited the site in March.

We also welcomed to the school over 100 VIP guests from the county and surrounding community. Head-teachers of the founder schools including Miss Jane Rosser and Mr Ian Machin and representatives of local community groups were among the visitors.

First Minister Carwyn Jones has officially opened the state-of-the-art Aberdare Community School , labelling it “an inspirational place” to learn.

The school, which opened its doors in May , forms part of Rhondda Cynon Taf council ’s £50m school and leisure development at the old Ynys site.

Mr Jones visited staff and pupils on Wednesday, November 25, to officially open the new school – which was formed when Aberdare High, Aberdare Girls’ Comprehesive and Blaengwawr Comprehensive schools closed .

The First Minister said: “We are committed to providing modern and vibrant learning environments for our students here in Wales.

“Aberdare Community School is a great example of that commitment in action and shows what can be achieved when we work in partnership with local government to deliver for local communities.

“We are delighted to have been able to provide nearly £21.5m in capital funding through our 21st Century School programme for this fantastic new school.

“I’m certain it will be an inspirational place for people to learn and will make a real difference to its pupils, the staff and local community as a whole.”
