Abacare calls for more carers in run up to winter

A WELSH care provider is recruiting new carers as it enters its busiest period of the year with a target to take on 100 new employees by November 1, 2017.

Abacare, which has offices in Rhondda Cynon Taf, needs carers to join its team and provide services in the Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare, Pontypridd and Porth areas.

Karina Barrett, Recruitment Administrator at Abacare, said: “We’re approaching autumn and winter, which is our busiest time of the year. As the weather turns more and more elderly and vulnerable people are at risk and the amount of people taking on live-in or homecare services rises, so we’re taking on new carers in order to maintain our excellent levels of care.

“We’re looking for kind and caring individuals to provide services in the Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare, Pontypridd and Porth areas, so anyone who believes they’re right for a position should get in touch.

“No experience is necessary to become a carer as we offer free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) after the initial six months probationary period.

“New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for all major brands as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for a change of career or someone who just fancies a bit of a change. Being a carer is an extremely rewarding job and you get to meet lots of wonderful people too.”

Anyone interested in a position should call 01443 742645 to request an application pack.

Karina added: “Being dependable is key to this role as people will be looking after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.

“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also essential. Candidates will need to have their own transport and mobile phone.

“We are looking for people who would be committed to the role on a long-term basis so they can build great relationships with the service users we support. They’ll be able to carve out a career in the industry for themselves too thanks to advancement opportunities. We often promote within the company too to help maintain our position of trust and allow continuity of care.”
