Family Fun For All At Nos Galan

Residents are being invited to get on track for a fantastic night of magic, mystery, celebrity and fun at the award-winning Nos Galan Road Races on New Year’s Eve.

Race entries are now closed. There will also be no Race Registration on the night due to overwhelming demand.

But all are encouraged to come along and cheer for the runners who have flocked from across the UK – and even further afield – to join the races, which celebrate the legendary athletic prowess of Guto Nyth Bran, who was rumoured to be the fastest man in the world in his day.

It is the crowds enjoying themselves that creates the unique atmosphere of Nos Galan, which was been named the Best Fun Run in the UK this year and been shortlisted for the same accolade in 2015.

And, thanks to event sponsors RCT Homes, Lower Cynon cluster Communities First, Vattenfall, Kier Construction and Amgen Cymru, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has been able to create an exciting event for all to enjoy, with fireworks, a funfair and, of course, the mystery celebrity runner who is not unveiled until the evening.

They carry the mystical Nos Galan torch from the grave of Guto Nyth Bran in St Gwynno’s Church down into the town centre to start the event, which includes children’s races and adult races.

Already, with a few days to go, this year’s Nos Galan looks set to be the biggest and best to date, with more runners than ever before taking part and places filling up in record time.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Leader Cllr Andrew Morgan, who is also a member of the Nos Galan Committee and member for Mountain Ash West, where the races take place, said: “This has already been a record year for Nos Galan and we know it is going to be a great night out for all.

“We have been lucky to secure event sponsorship from five key supporters this year, which has allowed us to put on a night to remember for the runners and also the community.

“We want to see as many people as possible in our lovely town centre on New Year’s Eve to join in the fun. They can celebrate the legend that has made us famous the world over, admire the talent and determination of the runners and, of course, find out who the celebrity runner will be.

“It truly is an evening to remember and one we want to celebrate with as many people as possible.”

The Nos Galan Road Races take place in Mountain Ash on New Year’s Eve, Wednesday, December 31. For further details on the event or to register online to take part, visit www.nosgalan.co.uk
