On Friday 30th March the infamous 'John Otway' is coming to perform a special one-off show in Aberdare on Good Friday. With the newly managed Jacs Music Venue in Aberdare starting to pick up a lot of local interest with much bigger touring bands starting to visit our little town of Aberdare, this is just a stepping stone to seeing a new and exciting music scene rising once again. If you are not fully aware of the pure madness that is Mr. Otway, he is an English singer-songwriter who built an audience through extensive touring, a surreal sense of humour and an underdog persona. He has been dubbed “rock’n’roll’s greatest failure” after many unsuccessful attempts to produce a second hit single to follow his 1977 classic (Cor Baby, That’s) "Really Free", he has also been a star of Top of The Pops and more recently his song “Beware Of The Flowers Cause I’m Sure They’re Going To Get You Yeah” voted the seventh greatest lyric of all time in a BBC poll. Otway is now also star of the silver screen with his debut movie so the people of Aberdare and beyond should expect some madcap mayhem and wacky stunts from a man old enough to know better.
I think now is the time to really show off what a great music venue we have on our door step in Aberdare at Jacs. Our town is known for being a central hub for music and the creative arts over the years but there seems to have been a recent slump in new bands and artists forming and playing locally. Under the 'Blowout' promotions team name, me and my colleague Connor Llewellyn and working tirelessly to bring fresh and exciting acts to Aberdare with hopes that it will inspire a new wave of youngsters to start making music here and around the local area. Jacs is a perfect venue for us to do this as they have a big sound system and have started to host big musical events giving the audience a lot of choice with their impressive mix of genres and different types of bands.
As well as John Otway performing he will be supported on the night by two Aberdare based bands: "Cool Beans" who play alternative folk rock and electro art-punk trio "Head Noise" who will be performing a special acoustic set for the evening. We think this will be a big local show that is likely to sell-out due to the sheer amount of interest and support we have had from people in and around the area. It is very humbling to know that people would like to support everything we are trying to do for the area and most importantly get the chance to enjoy themselves at these specially organised events. Tickets can be purchased online from the WeGotTickets website as well as from Red House Music in Aberdare Market.
