Commenting on a drop in the performance of ambulance response times to ‘Category A’ – or life-threatening - 999 calls, and the Labour government’s failure to reach its own target again following success in the last set of figures, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Health Darren Millar AM said:
“Sadly, it's back to missed response time targets and last month’s achievement now looks like a blip.
“After 18 months of failure - Carwyn Jones and Welsh Labour trumpeted the last set of figures. Today – I expect them to apologise and guarantee urgent improvements.
“With the potential for much colder weeks looming, this is an extremely worrying slip in performance.
“Labour’s legacy of record-breaking budget cuts have hamstrung hard-working NHS staff and Carwyn Jones’s plans to downgrade A and E departments will only mean response times getting worse.
“Welsh Conservatives will work closely with Labour ministers to ensure planned changes to the ambulance service are properly implemented and regularly reviewed.”
