Blood cancer patients who need lifesaving bone marrow transplants will benefit from a new scheme to speed up the search for a suitable match.
The Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry (WBMDR) will align its register with Anthony Nolan and the British Bone Marrow Registry (run by NHS Blood and Transplant) NHSBT to provide a single point of contact for UK transplant centres.
Transplant centres had to search for donors through individual registers which was time consuming. By working closer together and having one point of contact for transplant centre will radically speed up the process which will improve outcomes for UK patients.
If you have joined the Welsh Bone Marrow Registry –
• And are found to be a match your care and support throughout the process will always be delivered by WBMDR. You will not be contacted by any other third parties.
