When will Labour tackle the ambulance crisis?

RCT N

Despite endless reviews and promises of improvements from successive Labour Health Ministers the ambulance service is still nowhere near meeting its targets, and again Rhondda Cynon Taff is at the bottom of the league table.
The latest statistics show that in December only 45.4% of category A emergency calls were responded to within the target time of 8 minutes. Only Blaenau Gwent performed worse with 44.7%
Welsh Liberal Democrat Councillor Mike Powell says
"This situation has been going on for far too long, month after month the Welsh Government target of 65% of all category A calls responded to within 8 minutes is missed by a long way.
"The response from the Labour Government has been to bury their heads in the sand. Week after week when questioned in the Senedd the First Minister has brushed off the concerns of opposition members.
"Their latest response is that they should scrap targets - one way of making sure you don't miss them. It is simply not good enough. In RCT the response time are consistently below average and it is not uncommon for it to dip below 50%.
"People are understandably going to be concerned, especially when as yet there is still no decision on the plans to reconfigure critical care services in South Wales. Ambulances are taking longer to reach people in Rhondda Cynon Taff, if they then have to travel further to reach A&E unit then lives could be put at risk."
