We're supporting 'Big Energy Saving Week'

Age Cymru Wales

Helping older people save money in their home

Age Cymru is this week supporting ‘Big Energy Week’ – providing advice about energy efficiency.

Energy costs have risen sharply in recent years affecting older people’s households across Wales, with older people choosing between heating and eating.

1,600 older people in Wales may not survive the cold weather this winter – that’s equivalent to 13 preventable deaths every day.

Our statistics show that 40% of over 65s in Wales are concerned about staying warm in their home this winter, but you may be able to save some money by changing your energy supplier.

Our opens link in new window‘Switching energy supplier’ and opens link in new window‘Help with heating costs’ factsheets provide information on how to make your home more energy efficient.

With helpful tips and guidance about how to change suppliers, with accurate comparisons, and financial assistance that may be able to help you pay fuel bills.

Ian Thomas, Chief Executive of Age Cymru says;

“With the help from our factsheet and information and advice service we can support older people across Wales when making the big decision to change energy suppliers.

“In line with our ‘Spread the Warmth’ campaign, we’re happy to provide up to date information about how to be more energy efficient during the cold winter months.

“We are happy to support ‘Big Energy Week’ which supplies residents across Wales the chance to find out more about ways they can save money.”

Our factsheets ‘Switching energy supplier’ and ‘Help with heating costs’ can be downloaded or by calling our Advice Line 08000 223 444.

Big Energy Saving Week 2014 will run from Monday 27 to Friday 31 January 2014. This is the third national campaign to help people cut their fuel bills and get all the financial support they are entitled to.
