Are you willing to scale great heights to raise money for charity? Then why not join the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge in aid of the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Charity Appeal.
Held on Saturday, May 10, 2014, the challenge involves scaling Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan all in one day. The challenge will raise money for the charities chosen by the Mayor , Cllr Ann Crimmings, for her Charity Appeal - Macmillan Cancert Support (RCT) Guide Dogs Cymru and Diabetes Peer Support for Children (RCT.)
Participants will firstly scale Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales, before driving down to the mighty Cadair Idris, also in Snowdonia. Finally they will tackle the highest mountain in South Wales, Pen y Fan, to complete the challenge. Participants will walk a total distance of 20.35 miles and make a total ascent of 9,397ft (2,864m).
To take part in this challenge, you will be required to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship. To secure your place a non-refundable deposit of £30 is required, with the remaining minimum of £70 payable on the day.
Included in the price of the trip is transport to and from the challenge, assistance from qualified UK mountain leaders and a Three Peaks t-shirt.
The provisional itinerary for the day is:
Midnight - Drive to Snowdon (4 hours)
4am - Climb Snowdon (5 hours)
9am - Drive to Cadair Idris (1 1/2 hour)
10:30am - Climb Cadair Idris (6 hours)
4.30pm - Drive to Pen y Fan (2 1/2 hours)
7:00pm- Climb Pen y Fan (2 1/2 hours)
9.30pm - Finish Pen y Fan
Less experienced walkers who still want to get involved can join the last leg - Pen y Fan - and climb South Wales’ tallest mountain at night. Participants who are only climbing Pen y Fan will need a deposit of £30 and provide an extra £20 on day - totalling £50.
