USW students and graduates of Theatre & Drama through the medium of Welsh were successful at the National Eisteddfod in Llanelli this August: here’s a round up of events

Sunday in the Drama Shed (sponsored by Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru – the national theatre company) saw Theatre & Drama students and graduates host the best bits of the MAP festival (the national student Drama festival funded by Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol and organized by USW staff). This half-day event included rehearsed readings of plays and finished productions by our students, as well as students from other institutions in Wales. The event was organized and presented by USW students.

Sherman Cymru (the national centre for new theatre writing)also host their annual Script Slam at the National Eisteddfod, choosing the best 6 plays received during the year to be read by professional actors and directed by professional directors at the Eisteddfod. This year for the first time ever, there were six women dramatists successful, four of whom are recent graduates of our Theatre & Drama Welsh-medium course, and one continues to study the MA Scriptwriting with us (Bethan Lilley, Caryl MqQuilling, Gwenan Mair Hughes and Catrin Sara Lloyd).

A play by Carri Munn, occasional lecturer in Theatre and Drama, was also performed.
