The University of South Wales has been thanked by Hywel Dda University Health Board for the support it has given to the introduction of midwifery led units in two Welsh hospitals.
Janine Wyn Davies, Head of Midwifery Education at USW, was part of a team working in partnership with the health board in its preparation to introduce the specialist units at Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen and at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.
The team of expert midwives have worked together to provide training in order for the health board to establish and develop these midwifery services for women in the local community.
Janine Wyn Davies said: “Input from the university working along clinicians has been invaluable for the transition to a birth centre. We know birth centres work, we know they are safe for women and babies and we have the data and statistics to support this.”
