USW launches innovative new enterprise

The University of South Wales has created a new enterprise to help students become more employable and encourage them to start their own business.

The Firefly Project has been launched to focus on promoting innovation among students, supporting them in their business ventures and preparing them for the world of work after they graduate.

To celebrate the launch, USW students took part in a competition to design a logo for the Firefly Project. Graphic Communication student Hollie Edwards’ design was chosen from 12 entries, and was presented with a £150 Amazon voucher as her prize.

Hollie said: “I was so pleased to be part of this project. Not only have I gained valuable experience but I have also increased my network of business contacts.

“Thanks to the Firefly Project I have gained further employment, as I’ve been chosen to design the logo and business stationery for Elite Style Photography.”

Michael Caluan, Project Manager for the Firefly Project, added: “Hollie won the competition because of her fresh and contemporary design. Unlike her previous freelance work, Hollie had no formal brief for this logo, so the end result was down to her own creativity and innovation.”
