Hurrah….spring is here and to coincide with its welcome arrival, Y Galeri, Caerphilly is looking forward to a number of art events to stir the creative spirit out of hibernation. Visitors can always find one or more exciting gallery exhibitions plus profiles on display in Y Galeri, but in addition to these there’s a series of new workshops and events planned to kick start the season.

Coming up on Friday 28th & Saturday 29th March (10am -5pm) is an Unframed Art Event.
With 100’s of unframed pieces available for purchase during this two day event this is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking to invest in an affordable artwork. On offer will be work to suit an array of tastes and pockets including original paintings, drawings, linoprints, etchings, collagraphs, photographs, limited edition giclee prints etc from a host of Welsh artists. Prices start at £10 so there’s some bargains to be had!

Interested in printmaking? Then there are two new workshops in the pipeline. Tetrapak Collagraph Printing is planned for Saturday 5th April. (10am -1pm). Learn how to master simple collagraph processes to create plates to print from in this workshop with printmaker Jackie Shackson. Participants will need to bring a cutting knife, scissors and an apron. Paper, ink and materials to make a printing plate will be supplied plus teas & coffees of course! This lovely technique can be adapted to fit any style of artwork. Limited to a maximum of 6 participants. Cost £35. Pre-booking is essential.

There’s also an Introduction to Linoprinting Workshop planned for Saturday 26th April. (10am -1pm). Learn how to create an original lino print from an image of your choice. Printmaker Eleanor Whiteman will take participants through the basic aspects of printmaking from developing a design, to creating a lino block and making a print. If you have an image you would like to use then please bring it along on the day, or we can supply suitable images. Due to time constraints, images should be no larger than A5 and can be of any subject; landscape, still life, birds, flowers and anything in between. Limited to a maximum of 6 participants. Cost £35. Pre booking essential
