Tourism team recognised for Innovative work

Innovative work to support coach and group travel operators travelling to the South Wales valleys earned Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Tourism team a place in the finals of a national awards ceremony.

The Tourism team worked with local blue badge guide Steve Griffin and Pontypridd travel company Edwards Coaches to produce two brochures for the group tour market.

They developed itineraries to showcase the area, designing four routes to highlight the diversity in the area. The team ensured information included in the brochures was relevant for group tour operators.

The travel publications have been a hit – and led to the Council’s Tourism Team being chosen as finalists in the Coach Tours Innovation category at this year’s National Coach Tourism Awards held in Blackpool on May 16.

Cllr Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “Congratulations to our Tourism team on reaching the finals of this prestigious competition.

“Being finalists recognises the commitment and hard work of this small team in encouraging people to visit our beautiful county borough.”

The first brochure Exploring Rhondda Cynon Taf by coach, minibus and car includes a number of suggested routes for group travel around Rhondda Cynon Taf, as well as information on local attractions.

The second brochure, The Coach Tour Guide, provides practical information on coach parking, coach support and accommodation, as well as information on local attractions, activities, town centres and shopping.

Organised by trade magazine Coach Monthly, the National Coach Tourism Awards recognise excellence and innovation across coach tour operators, tourist destinations and attractions, and industry suppliers.
