Wales YFC are pleased to report on a successful weekend of competitions at the NFYFC Finals in Blackpool.
Members from across Wales travelled to Blackpool for the recent NFYFC AGM, but it wasn’t just for a weekend of socialising. Wales YFC were represented in the Member of the Year, Entertainment, Disco Dancing and Choir Finals.
Llanbadarn Fynydd YFC, Radnor proved that Wales YFC certainly have talent in the Entertainment Final with their performance entitled ‘Just Chilled’, produced by Gwyn Price and James Powell. The cast impressed the judges and were awarded first places, with Laura Watson receiving the award for Best Actress and Matthew Lewis taking Best Actor.
Between Entertainments, Member of the Year finalists were interviewed in front of hundreds of people in the Opera House auditorium, a daunting task for any member. Lowri Davies, Neath YFC in Glamorgan was representing Wales YFC and gave in depth and confident answers to her questions. Finalists also took part in individual interviews with a panel of judges before learning their fate.
Representing Wales YFC in the Disco Dancing were Clunderwen YFC, Pembrokeshire and Glamorgan YFC. Eight teams from across England and Wales took to the floor at the Winter Gardens, proving that YFC members can strut their stuff. Glamorgan YFC danced home in 3rd place and Clunderwen YFC were placed 6th.
Wales YFC were also triumphant in the Choir competition with Glamorgan YFC fighting off stiff competition to be awarded 1st place. The choir sang 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen and Welsh folk song 'Cyfri'r Geifr'.
A just-for-fun darts competition took place for the first time with James Poulton from Radnor YFC taking home £50 after gaining second place.
Gwennan Davies, Wales YFC’s Competitions Chairman remarked; “This has been a hugely successful weekend for Wales YFC. These members have worked tirelessly to make it to the National finals and it is an achievement they should be extremely proud of. They have certainly helped to put Wales YFC on the map.”
