Strapped for cash Rhondda Cynon Taf Council shell out thousands for road races

Aberdare Park May 2003

Aberdare motorcycle road races enjoyed by thousands at Aberdare Park this year was subsidised by the cash strapped Rhondda Cynon Taf County borough council.

AberdareOnline under a Freedom of Information Request to RCTCBC received the following response.

The amount of funding provided to Aberaman Motorcycle Club by RCTCBC is as follows:
2013 - £18,750
2014 - £18,000

It is estimated that over 5,000 people turned out to watch the event most of them paying £11 each at the gate for entry.

Or as advertised on http://www.aberdarepark.co.uk/news.html you can have a go at 6 laps of the circuit on your own bike for £45-00.

Lets hope the motorcycle club made enough money this year not to impose so much on the local ratepayer next year.

There will be many who will say the £18,000 would be better spent on keeping the paddling pool open all summer rather than just spending on a 2-day event.

There is a history about the motorbike racing at the park, I remember going to see the legendary Mike Hailwood and John Surtees a few years back now.
