Have you voted for the world-famous Nos Galan Road Races yet? The Council's magical New Year's Eve event, celebrating its 56th anniversary this year, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Fun Run’ category at the 2014 UK Running Awards.

Organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Nos Galan Committee, more than 1,000 people took part in the 2013 Nos Galan Road Races wiith many more lining the route. Last year’s Nos Galan Mystery Runner was Ospreys, Wales and British Lions rugby player Alun Wyn Jones.

Cllr Ann Crimmings, Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf and also Chair of the Nos Galan Committee and Secretary of Aberdare Valley Amateur Athletics Club, said: “Reaching the final 12 in the UK is an amazing achievement. The Nos Galan Road Races are a global success and the event is loved by so many people - now is the time to get behind us and show how much the Nos Galan Road Races really do mean to you.

“The UK Running Awards celebrate the cream of the entire running industry in the UK - to be shortlisted at such a prestigious awards ceremony is testimony to the success of the Nos Galan Road Races.

“First staged in 1958, the Nos Galan Road Races are a proud and rich part of our heritage. They have put the town of Mountain Ash, indeed the whole of Rhondda Cynon Taf and Wales, on the map.

”The races have brought so much pleasure to so many people over the years - now is your chance to say thank you and give something back. All it takes in one simple vote that will cost you nothing other than a few minutes of your time.”
