Sport Relief Mile 2014

Sport Relief Mile 2014

Raise a smile as well as loads of money for charity by signing up for the Sport Relief Mile at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park.

Organised by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Sport RCT team, the fundraising fun run on Sunday, March 23, is expected to attract hundreds of athletes of all ages and abilities, as well as many more supporters and spectators.

Participants will be able to walk, run or jog a distance of one mile, three miles or six miles - depending on their abilities. They will also be encouraged to do so in fancy dress, adding to the fun and carnival atmosphere of the day.

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, which has retained its coveted Green Flag status, attracts thousands of visitors each year. It is also the home of the ever-popular Ponty’s Big Weekend music extravaganza.

Cllr Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, Leisure and Tourism , said: “The Sport Relief Mile is the perfect opportunity to raise money for charity while at the same time enjoying the beautiful surroundings of our award-winning park.

“It is the chance for the people of Rhondda Cynon Taf, during these tough times, to do whatever they can for this national cause. It also encourages residents of all ages to get active and undertake exercise in a bid to improve their health and well-being.”

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Leisure Services has a dedicated Sport RCT Team to help you get involved in all types of sporting and leisure activities. Staff will be located in the Council’s SportsVillage, which will be located at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park on the day.

Regardless of age, interest or ability, the team can help you find a sport or activity that is perfect for you. Simply make contact and tell them where you live and what you are interested in - and they can do the rest by making recommendations for clubs and classes, finding your nearest team and supporting you to get involved.

The Sport Relief Mile takes place at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on Sunday, March 23. The fun starts at 10am. The cost is £6 per adult, £3 per child and £15 per family. All monies raised, along with your entry fee, will go to Sport Relief.
