South Wales Police has been placed 19th in Stonewall’s Top 100 list of best employers in the UK. It also shares the position of the highest scoring Police force in Great Britain with North Wales Police.

The list demonstrates the achievements of employers submitting to the Workplace Equality Index. The Index measures how employers treat their staff regardless of their sexual orientation to ensure that everyone is treated equally. It also measures how well diversity is promoted and accepted within the workplace and this year recognised further progress in South Wales Police.

Mark Milton, Strategic Director of Human Resources at South Wales Police, said:

“We are extremely pleased that South Wales Police has retained a top 20 position in Stonewall’s Equality Index. It is a privilege to feature in this list as recognition of our continued efforts to demonstrate our understanding of our lesbian, gay and bisexual community and staff.

“It is great to see the index featuring so many new entrants and many prominent organisations from both public and private sectors and this will hopefully encourage better employment practices across the board.

“Throughout the coming year we look forward to continuing positive work with our staff and will continue to support our employees through a range of initiatives starting with guidance for managers to be published during LGBT history month in February.”
