Response to IPCC report on fatal road traffic collision on Rhigos mountain

South Wales Police has issued its response to the IPCC report on the fatal road traffic collision on Rhigos mountain road on on 24th May 2012.

Head of South Wales Police Professional Standards Department, Chief Superintendent Tim Jones said:

“We acknowledge and accept the findings of the IPCC investigation.

“It is clear that at no time did officers pursue the stolen vehicle, and that staff working within our Public Service Centre (PSC) were correct in reaching the conclusion that the incident did not amount to a ‘pursuit’.

“The IPCC investigation found no misconduct on the part of the staff involved and concluded that their actions did not contribute to the tragic outcome.”

Chief Supt Jones added:

“In relation to our PSC staff, the IPCC identified some areas of learning, and these have been utilised to inform the ongoing training programme for our staff who are called upon to manage these most challenging operational incidents.”

“Our thoughts remain with the family of Jennifer Evans at this time.”
