Mayor Cllr Crimmings meets resident Iris Wilson
Staff and residents at a home for elderly people in Llantwit Fardre marked its 25th anniversary on August 14 - and Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor joined in the celebrations.
Family-run Penrhos Residential Care Home for the Elderly in Old Station Yard was established in 1988 by Steve and Annette Campbell. Mayor Cllr Ann Crimmings went along to meet staff and residents at the home, which received an Investor in People award for the training and development of its staff in 2003. Cllr Crimmings spent time meeting all the people who are cared for at Penrhos.
Chairman of Llantwit Fardre Community Council Anthony Raines was also a guest, and Glenda Clwyd played the harp during the Mayor’s visit. Later in the afternoon, staff and residents were joined by Llantrisant Ladies Choir who performed a selection of songs enjoyed by all. In the evening, singer Glenn Daniels performed, giving ladies and gentlemen at the home the opportunity to dance the night away.
Penrhos remains a family-run home, as Nicola Campbell and Stephen Campbell junior, registered care manager and business manager, have taken over in recent years since the retirement of their mother Annette. The family is supported by a team of support workers, two cooks, two domestic workers, an activities co-ordinator and an administrative assistant.
"I was delighted to be invited to celebrate with everyone on the 25th anniversary of the residential home," said Cllr Crimmings.
"It can be a very difficult decision for a person and their family to realise that they, or a loved one, are unable to stay in their own home for ill-health or safety reasons, but that decision is made so much easier when you find a care home whose ethos is respect, dignity, personal choice and openness. This attitude makes the experience of moving into a residential home a more positive one for all concerned.
"Well done to all at Penrhos for helping to make the transition from home to residential home as smooth as possible, and for the care and attention given to residents when they are with you."
