There is some light in the tunnel at last for the thousands who regularly use the Abergavenny to Brecon A40 Trunk Road.
All summer there have been temporary traffic lights where the A40 runes through Glangrwyney, the westbound lane of the A40 have suffered a structural failure and as part of that the retaining wall at Kings Lynn has collapsed making the westbound lane unsafe to allow traffic to use that lane.
The situation is further complicated by the presence of utility services within the structure of the highway, funding from the Welsh Government has been approved to carry out the repair work. Detailed design is now progressing well and technical approval is currently being sought. Utility issues have been resolved and site investigation work is in progress. Preliminary agreement has been reached with adjoining landowners.
Powys County Councillor John G. Morris and local AM Kirsty Williams have been pressing the Labour minister responsible for the delays Edwina Hart and question on the delay was put to the first minister Caerwyn Jones at the Assembly his response was they were still deciding on design options.
We are hopeful that we will enter the on-site construction phase shortly said Angus Watson from North & Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent.
