The annual event takes place in Mountain Ash on Tuesday, December 31, 2013.
The fun starts in the town centre at 4pm with the first of the children’s races. This will be followed by an elite race and 5k adult fun run and a spectacular fireworks display.
The highlight of the night will be the arrival of a Mystery Runner who will represent the spirit of Guto, carrying the torch from his graveside at St Gwynno’s Church down the hillside to the town centre four miles away.
Previous Mystery Runners have included Linford Christie, John Hartson, James Hook, Nicole Cook, Jamie Roberts, Martyn Williams, Lillian Board, Gethin Jenkins, David Bedford, Shane Williams - and last year it was 2012 Olympic athlete Dai Greene and Paralympic athlete Samatha Bowen.
As well as a series of children’s races, there will also be an Elite Race and the Adult 5k Fun Run. Other attractions will include a spectacular fireworks display.
Cllr Maureen Webber, Cabinet Member for Council Business and Public Relations, said: “The Nos Galan Road Races is a highlight in Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s events calendar each year and it is pleasing to see so many people already committing themselves to taking part.
“The event has grown in popularity enormously in recent years and we have seen a record number of entrants so our message to all those wishing to take part this year is to get your applications in early to avoid any disappointment.”
