Public pressure put paid to 15% pay rise for Head of PR Department – for now.

RCT N

The 15% pay rise suggested for the Head of the Council's PR Department has been referred back to the appointments committee.
A confidential report had suggested that Christian Hanagan, who has been the subject of controversy since he was given his current post without it being advertised and with no interview, be given the extra £160 a week because of extra responsibilities he would be taking on.
RCT Welsh Liberal Democrat Campaign Manager Karen Roberts says
"The part of the meeting which discussed the proposed increase in salary was held behind closed doors and so it is unclear exactly what happened. However, I am told it was referred back to the appointments committee who put the proposal forward.
"It would seem that some Labour Councillors still have a conscience. In other cases I suspect that the press leak instilled a degree of panic in them and they woke up to the backlash they could have expected from the public.
"It is just a shame that those who are unhappy enough to leak information to us on the basis that we will put it in the public domain are not willing to stand up in public to their leaders.
"I only hope that this has really been kicked into the long grass and it will not be implemented by other means behind closed doors."
