Welcoming the announcement that the Scottish referendum will be held on 18th September 2014, Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood said:

"Plaid Cymru welcomes this announcement, which shows the Scottish Government’s commitment to hold a referendum on an independent Scotland to deliver social justice. The people of Scotland have the right to self-determination, and Plaid Cymru clearly appreciates and supports the efforts of our sister party in the SNP. It is clear that the governance of the United Kingdom is going through significant changes, and that a looser neighbourhood of nations based on greater equality can now emerge in place of the former unitary, centralised state. We look forward to Wales making significant constitutional advances in the coming years, and are working extremely hard to maximise the growth of Welsh democracy."
