Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood AM today warned that the First Minister must deliver his own party’s support on devolving powers to Wales – otherwise they are leaving those powers in the hands of the Conservatives in Westminster.
In today’s First Minister’s Questions, Leanne Wood said that his party’s claims to defend Wales were meaningless if the Welsh Government was powerless to stop Westminster in so many fields.
Leanne Wood said that greater powers for Wales through the Silk Commission is the only way to put Wales first.
Party of Wales leader Leanne Wood AM said:
“The First Minister says that Wales is a living example of what can be achieved, but our economy, health and education outcomes are not good enough.
“A Plaid Cymru Government would concentrate on creating jobs, recruiting medical staff and improving school standards.
“There are many issues which are still outside our control and the shadow Secretary of State says that Wales needs protection from the Coalition Government at Westminster.
“The answer to that is that Wales must have the powers to make decisions that affect our people.
“The First Minister must now guarantee all of his party’s MPs full support for devolution of powers to Wales, otherwise we will continue to be at the mercy of Conservative governments in Westminster.
“More powers for Wales through the Silk Commission is the only way to put Wales first.”
