Plaid Cymru have a youth guarantee at the heart of their policy

Plaid Cymru MEP Jill Evans has dismissed Labour’s latest suggestions for helping young people. It is an absolute priority to provide the training which will equip them for the future.

Jill Evans MEP said:

“Plaid Cymru supports the European Social Fund, which promises work or training after four months of unemployment.

“No one can be in any doubt that tackling youth unemployment is a top priority. In some parts of Wales such as Cynon Valley, Rhondda and Blaenau Gwent, 37% of young people are out of work.

“We have called for the Welsh Government to implement the EU’s Youth Guarantee with a promise to any young person, who has been unemployed for more than four months, that they will be offered either a job, training or an apprenticeship.

“Young people are our future, and Plaid Cymru won’t let them down by ignoring them once they leave school or university.

“Long-term youth unemployment under Labour has risen massively by almost 500% since the beginning of this Welsh Labour Government. Plaid Cymru wants to put an end to this cycle of despair, and we will do that by putting young people at the heart of our policies.”
