An ‘us not them’ mentality is what will overcome the challenges that face Wales: that was the message of the party chair to delegates at the Plaid Cymru spring conference.
Helen Mary Jones called on delegates to reject the destructive language of division and instead unite and take responsibility for Wales’ fortunes. She said that only by taking responsibility over the nation’s present can we build a better future.
The Party of Wales Chair Helen Mary Jones said:
“There are many voices that seek to divide us. Rhetoric that divides the rich and the poor, that seeks to stigmatise the unemployed, that isolates those on benefits, is simply damaging. What Plaid Cymru wants is to bring the nation together to reject these divisions. Let us come together and overcome these barriers and build a better Wales for ourselves.
“Let us not wait for ‘them’ to bring a factory to Wales and hope that jobs will be created. Let us do it for ourselves. Let us spend our money more wisely and support our businesses, to strengthen our economy and create the jobs we desperately need. Unless we take it upon ourselves, no one else will do it for us.
“It’s too easy to blame external factors for the problems that face Wales. We need to be the answer to our problems, and deliver the solutions that will help our nation grow and prosper. Let us come together and unite for a better Wales.”
