A typical scene on the streets of Mountain Ash during the annual Nos Galan Road Races
The Nos Galan Road Races has been nominated in the ‘Best Fun Run’ category at the 2014 UK Running Awards.
Now is the time to show your support of the world-famous Nos Galan Road Races, this year celebrating its 55th birthday, by registering your vote!
The UK Running Awards is an annual ceremony celebrating the best of running and its culture around the country - from best fun runs and running events and marathons to best running shoes and the most innovative running apps.
The closing date for nominations is Tuesday, January 14. All votes are free and the nominees with the fewest votes will then be eliminated, leaving a small shortlist of finalists in each category.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf and also Chair of the Nos Galan Committee and Secretary of Aberdare Valley Amateur Athletics Club, is urging the public to get behind the Nos Galan Road Races nomination.
She said: “It is brilliant news that our annual New Year’s Eve event in Mountain Ash is once again getting national recognition with this nomination at the UK Running Awards.
“These awards celebrate the cream of the entire running industry in the UK - to even be nominated at such a prestigious awards ceremony is testimony to the success of the Nos Galan Road Races.
“First staged in 1958, the Nos Galan Road Races are a proud and rich part of our heritage. They have put the town of Mountain Ash, indeed the whole of Rhondda Cynon Taf and Wales, on the map.
“The races have brought so much pleasure to so many people over the years - now is your chance to say thank you and give something back. All it takes in one simple vote that will cost you nothing other than a few minutes of your time.”
