RCT Council services are in disarray as more snow has arrived overnight and made conditions difficult in many areas of the County Borough.
The Council website states that "Due to the snowfall experienced overnight and a risk assessment being carried out a decision has been made to cancel the Meals on Wheels Service in the Rhondda and Cynon areas, with limited service being provided in the Taf area - for information please call the meals on wheels team on 07799132222."
We do not know at the moment what if any alternatives have been arranged for elderly residents who may be totally reliant on this service. It is also of concern that many of those who use the service may not have access to the internet and so may not know the service is cancelled. Hopefully this aspect will have been covered and Council staff will have notified residents affected directly.
There is some confusion over schools and Home to School transport. The Council website says
"The Council has made the decision to run Home to School Transport for Secondary schools as normal on Tuesday 22nd January.
Primary schools Home to School Transport will also be running where possible - this will be at the discretion of the transport providers and the individual schools transport coordinator. This is all based on the premise that the individual school is open."
Yet Cllr Mike Powell has visited one Secondary school which is open and been told that home to school transport wasn't running. So the picture is far from clear.
The Council HQ at Clydach Vale has been closed, as has Ty Elai in Williamstown - which raises again the question of why these offices are placed in such remote locations which are difficult to access at the best of times.
There is an emergency telephone number on the Council website - 01443 425011.
