NHS Continuing Care deadline

Age Cymru Wales

Age Cymru is calling for more time to allow the public to put in claims for care home fees they may have wrongly paid.

We want the Welsh Government to move the 31 July 2014 deadline for submitting claims for reimbursing NHS Continuing Care fees back to 31 October.

We have written to Welsh Government’s Minister for Health and Social Services - Mark Drakeford AM, to ask for the extension.

Our Director of Influencing and Programme Development, Victoria Lloyd says:

“We have written to the Minister for Health and Social Services to ask for the deadline for submitting retrospective claims for reimbursement of NHS Continuing Care fees to be extended to 31 October 2014.

“Age Cymru is concerned that low public awareness of the current deadline will lead to people who are potentially entitled to reimbursement of wrongly paid care fees missing out on the opportunity to put in a claim.

“Moving the deadline by three months - and ensuring that the Welsh Government and Health Boards widely publicise the new deadline, will potentially allow many more families to claim back money that they may have paid unnecessarily for care fees.

“This is why we have asked the Minister to move the deadline to ensure that everyone who can claim to have their fees reimbursed is able to do so.“

The 31 July deadline for putting in claims for reimbursing NHS Continuing Care fees applies to people who paid care home fees for nursing care needs between 1 April 2003 and 31 July 2013.
