Chapter Capital Alliance is seeking Expressions of Interest from inspirational architectural practices to develop innovative design solutions for its ambitious new development.
Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff is the main centre for contemporary arts in Wales. Following a successful development in 2009 visitor numbers increased from 400,000 to over 800,000 annually. Building on that success the Centre’s next stage of development is in partnership with a group of arts organisations that have, like Chapter, built formidable reputations for their contribution to the development of the contemporary arts in Wales, the UK and internationally. The partners with Chapter in the Capital Alliance Project are Earthfall, ffotogallery, Theatr Iolo and Cardiff University.
They have come together with the key aim of significantly developing the Chapter Arts Centre and Market house sites in Canton, Cardiff and creating an even more vibrant, innovative, multidisciplinary centre for artistic presentation, production and participation. This will be achieved through a £6 million development which will substantially extend the facilities with new galleries, cinemas, performance and rehearsal studios, learning spaces, a digital hub, expanded retail facilities and the extension and refurbishment of existing spaces.
Chapter Capital Alliance Partnership will provide a richer artistic provision for audiences and the artistic community and will also make a significant contribution to the strategic, artistic, economic and social objectives of national and regional bodies including the Arts Council of Wales, the Welsh Government and Cardiff Council.
Chapter Capital Alliance is seeking Expressions of Interest from architect led Design Teams to develop plans to RIBA Stage 2 as part of a Feasibility Study made possible by funding from the Arts Council of Wales.
