Cllr Craig Middle with staff at Abercynon Community Library
Library users in Abercynon can enjoy the facilities at a brand-new library building which opened this week.
The new library has been built within the grounds of the new Abercynon Community Primary School site and immediately opposite the current branch library in Ynysmeurig Road, which has now closed.
The new library has modern, purpose-built library fittings with a children’s area, a specialist teen area with X Box and plasma screen and plenty of new stock. There are dedicated library parking spaces within the grounds of the new building.
On the upper floor of the building is a public access computer suite and a public meeting room - which is free to local community groups. Please contact the branch librarian on 01443 740486 or email Abercynon.Library@rhondda-cynon-taff.gov.uk if you are interested in booking the meeting space or the public access PCs.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Justice, Cllr Craig Middle, who went along to meet staff and customers at the library, said: "I am sure local residents will enjoy visiting this bright, modern library for Abercynon. Libraries are now much more than just places to loan books and there are a range of excellent facilities on offer for all ages here."
The modern, environmentally-friendly £11.5m new Abercynon Community Primary School, which opened its doors to pupils on September 3, has been built on the site of the former village infants’ school and adult education centre, in the heart of the village. It was designed to replace out-dated facilities at the former Abercynon Infants, Carnetown and Abertaf Primary Schools.
* Membership of all Rhondda Cynon Taf's libraries is free and everyone living or working within the county borough is welcome to join.
