New finance director appointed

Helen Smith,

St John Cymru Wales, the leading first aid charity, has strengthened its senior management team, with the appointment of a new director of finance.

Helen Smith, 38, from Pontypridd will assist the other members of the senior management team to drive forward the charity’s strategic intent to have a first aider on every street in Wales.

Helen, who is originally from Luton, joins St John Wales from Rhondda Housing Association. Prior to that Helen was head of finance for ategi, a charity providing services to vulnerable adults in Wales.

Helen will manage the charity’s finance department and will also take the lead in IT and property matters. As company secretary, she will also be responsible for ensuring St. John Wales’ compliance with charity and company regulation and will work closely with the trustees to ensure good governance.

St John Wales’ Chief Executive Keith Dunn said, “Helen has a proven track record in her field and I’m thrilled she has joined the team.

“Helen will work closely with staff from across all departments including fundraising, volunteering and training and will ensure accurate accounting and reporting for both internal and external purposes.

“Helen will also co-operate closely with our board of trustees in the overall strategic, financial and operational development of the charity.

“I have no doubt that Helen will do a fantastic job and I am pleased to welcome her to the senior management team.”
