Kate Miles, of Neath & District YFC, Glamorgan is the new Chairman of Wales YFC. Elected by the members at Wales YFC’s Annual General Meeting held on Saturday the 5th of October at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff as part of the YFC Fresher’s Weekend, Kate will lead the organisation during the forthcoming year.
Kate, 32, works as a solicitor specialising in Employment Law in Cardiff. She is currently Club Leader and Vice President of Neath & District YFC. In the past she has held position as Chairman of her Club and County, as well as Chairman of Glamorgan’s Competitions Committee and Wales YFC’s Activities and International Committee. In 2008 Kate was Wales YFC’s Senior Member of the Year, proving that she has made the most of every opportunity through YFC.
After being elected as Chairman, Kate said;
“I'm hugely excited to be elected as Chairman of the best youth organisation in Wales. I have been given a massive honour and I hope that I can continue the good work of my predecessors. These are exciting times for Wales YFC with the launch of our Strategic Plan which will help to ensure that we continue to grow and develop.
I would like to congratulate Gwenno Griffith, the outgoing Chairman, on a successful year and on her achievement, alongside our members, in raising in excess of £25,000 for the British Heart Foundation in order to place defibrillators in community places. In the coming year, rather than raising money for a specific charity, I am encouraging our members to look closer to home at their own communities and to donate their time to make a difference through a community project. I have challenged each county to perform at least one community project within the next 10 months, and will look forward to working alongside them in achieving this goal. Provided each county manages to do this, then I have agreed to do a challenge of my own, as nominated and voted upon by our members. Following some of the suggestions that have already come in, I am a bit concerned that I may live to regret this!
I'm really looking forward to meeting more of our members in the coming year, and to making new friends right across Wales.
I would like to thank our members for giving me this opportunity and I encourage them all to take advantage of the wide-ranging opportunities that YFC has to offer - I want all our members to get as much out of YFC as I have.”
