A Creative Sound & Music graduate from the University of South Wales is celebrating the latest success in his career after co-writing a pop hit for X Factor boy band Union J.
Jon Maguire, who has already achieved phenomenal success as a songwriter and producer in his short career, co-wrote the song Beautiful Life, which reached number 8 in the UK charts. The track was released by the pop quartet Union J, who finished fourth in the 2013 series of The X Factor.
Jon, who graduated from the University of South Wales in 2011, has become a highly acclaimed songwriter and producer in the pop industry. He has worked with many successful artists and record companies, but Jon said: “Achieving a chart place for a song I have co-written tops it all.”
He also achieved success with fellow music producer Jon Lilygreen as Welsh pop-rock duo Lilygreen & Maguire, pictured below, who were signed to Warner Brothers Records in 2011. The duo have since released three singles, Given Up Giving Up, Ain’t Love Crazy and Come On Get Higher.
Matthew Lovett, the Creative Sound & Music Course Leader at the University of South Wales said: “This is a remarkable achievement for Jon, who has proven that with determination and the correct guidance, you can be a success in the music industry. The University’s Creative Sound & Music degree aims to properly equip students with the high standard of relevant skills and knowledge required by such a competitive industry.”
