Murco deal failure shows it is spread sheet economic recovery

Simon Thomas AM has said the failure of the deal to sell the Murco oil refinery in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire is another example of a spread sheet economic recovery that has not helped people living in Wales.

About 400 jobs at the refinery are now at risk.

Mid and West Plaid Cymru AM Simon Thomas said:

“This is an example of what Plaid Cymru has talked about the Welsh economy experiencing a spread sheet recovery which is not being felt by the people of Wales. The recent budget by George Osborne was a missed opportunity.

"I was assured by the chair of the Haven Waterway Enterprise Zone that Murco was safe, if the Welsh Government enterprise zone can't keep skilled jobs like this in Pembrokeshire then it would seem to be just another impotent and meaningless Welsh Government window-dressing."

"The loss of these jobs would be a big hole in the Pembrokeshire economy. The Party of Wales will continue to push for more jobs and better jobs across all parts of Wales, including the Milford Haven area. As a Welsh Government we would do this through increasing skills, better training and building our infrastructure to improve the economy.”
