Marie Curie Hospice staff thank volunteers
Staff at the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth held two events to show their appreciation to volunteers from across South East Wales.
Held on Wednesday 1st June during Volunteers’ Week, the events saw Marie Curie staff waiting on volunteers to say ‘thank you’ for the contribution they make to the running of the charity’s hospice and care in the community.
The first event saw the hospice host a special Blooming Great Tea Party with music from harpist Glenda Clwyd, a free prize raffle, buffet and drinks served by Marie Curie staff. This was followed by a similar evening event where hospice staff donned aprons and served drinks and food to volunteers, whose roles range from receptionists, maintenance staff and fundraisers to Helper companions, therapists and drivers. Music on the evening was provided by Hank Hillman.
Paula Elson, Hospice Manager, said: “Our volunteers do so much to support the running of the charity, so we wanted to set a day aside to show them just how much we appreciate their support. There was a collective feeling among the workforce that we wanted to really show our volunteers what they mean to us, so we had plenty of staff members who wanted to serve food and drinks to our deserving volunteers.
“It is fair to say that Marie Curie would not be able to continue to provide the care and support it provides to people living with a terminal illness without the support of volunteers, so saying ‘thank you’ in this way is the least we can do.”
