Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) today publishes its Local Supervising Authority (LSA) Annual report to the Nursing and Midwifery Council on the Statutory Supervision of Midwives in Wales.
The report details the ways in which HIW has carried out its functions as the Local Supervising Authority in Wales during 2012-2013 and met the standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. It also highlights some areas of good practice and achievements by midwives and Supervisors of Midwives in Wales and sets the agenda for 2013-14.
The full report is attached with this release and will be available on the HIW website at www.hiw.org.uk from 2pm.
Mandy Collins, Head of the LSA in Wales said:
“Having a baby is an event of great emotional significance and one which should be a positive experience for mothers and their families. Midwives across Wales play a fundamental role in ensuring a positive experience by providing safe and high quality midwifery care. In turn the Local Supervising Authority (LSA) for Wales supports midwives by ensuring that they have access to and receive appropriate levels of statutory supervision. The report provides an insight into the changes Wales is planning for statutory supervision with its stakeholders. The road ahead is an exciting one for supervision in Wales and the rest of the UK will be looking to the outcomes of our work as there is a general view that change is needed.”
