Plaid Cymru leader, and Welsh learner, Leanne Wood AM has shown her support for today’s ‘Diwrnod Shwmae S’mae’ by asking her opening question to the First Minister in Welsh at the National Assembly.
The aim of the ‘Shwmae S’mae’ campaign is for Welsh speakers and learners to open every conversation in Welsh today to indicate that they can, and want to use the language and to encourage other Welsh speakers and learners to use the language more often.
Party of Wales leader Leanne Wood AM showed her support by asking the First Minister whether he agreed with her in supporting the transfer of criminal justice powers to Wales.
Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood AM said:
"As a Welsh learner, I very much welcome the Diwrnod Shwmae S’mae initiative – encouraging people to ‘have a go’, and to use whatever Welsh we have, to start conversations in Welsh.
"Getting the opportunity to practice when learning a language is very important – especially practising in ‘real life’ situations.
"I want to express my gratitude to all those involved in organising and promoting this day, and I hope it is something that will continue into the future."
