Leader welcomes draft Wales Bill

Andrew RT Davies

Commenting on today’s publication of the draft Wales Bill – which will enable devolved governance in Wales to become more accountable – Leader of the Welsh Conservatives Andrew RT Davies AM, said:

“The publication of this Bill is both hugely welcome and enormously significant.

“With this draft legislation, the Conservative-led coalition has changed our economic landscape for good, providing all the tools needed for economic growth in Wales.

“It’s now critical that the process moves forward as quickly as possible – providing Wales with the fully accountable government it deserves.

“I fully back the enabling of a referendum on the devolution of income tax and will continue to urge Carwyn Jones and Welsh Labour to allow the people of Wales to have their say.

“Silk Part One – which all parties voted for in the Welsh Parliament, including Labour – set out a clear timetable for implementation. It’s now time all politicians got behind that and campaigned for a double yes; ‘Yes’ to a referendum and ‘yes’ to cutting tax.

“Under these plans, the Welsh Government will be made fully accountable for its spending decisions for the first time and forced to deliver value for money for taxpayers.

“That is sorely needed and I welcome this Bill wholeheartedly.”
