At the recent Winter Fair held at the Royal Welsh Showground, Jack Powell of Radnor YFC took the Supplier of the Year award for the Wales YFC Lamb Initiative Programme.

The Initiative works in partnership with Dunbia, one of the UK's leading processors and Sainsbury's one of the UK's largest supermarkets. This initiative gives members of Wales YFC the unique opportunity to supply Welsh lamb to Sainsbury's stores within Wales, all year round.

The vision for the Wales YFC lamb initiative is to support and encourage young people to remain within the farming industry and to offer a stepping stone for those trying to establish themselves as a supplier of Welsh Lamb. The initiative gives young farmers the opportunity to be part of an innovative programme of training events designed to meet the needs of the members.

The Supplier of the Year award for the initiative was presented at the Wales YFC Centre by Phillip Hambling, Agricultural Manager, Sainsbury’s and Nia James, Procurement Manager, Llanybydder.

Speaking on behalf of Wales YFC, Rural Affairs Chairman, Iwan Thomas, said;
“The Wales YFC Lamb Scheme is an excellent opportunity for Young Farmers to benefit from their membership and receive a premium for their produce. It is also superb to see one of the younger members of the scheme take the title of ‘Supplier of the Year’, rewarding him for his efforts in ensuring lambs are in specification and well finished.”

If anyone is interested in taking part in the scheme please contact the Wales YFC office on 01982 553502 or Dunbia (Llanybydder) 01570 472 067.
