Plaid Cymru Shadow Education Minister Simon Thomas has welcomed signs that an independent exam regulator is a step closer. The Welsh Government has pledged to create Qualifications Wales, a single body responsible for the regulation and quality assurance of non-degree qualifications in Wales. Plaid Cymru called for an independent regulator in their submission to the Review of Qualifications for 14 to 19 year olds in Wales.
The Mid and West AM, Simon Thomas said: “Following calls from Plaid Cymru for an independent exam regulator the Welsh Government has finally pledged from September 2015, the regulatory functions currently carried out by Welsh Ministers will be undertaken by Qualifications Wales, a new independent body that will sit outside of government. This should avoid the debacle over re-grading last year.”
