Hundreds of ladies sign up for Midnight Sleep Walk

A glow of neon will fill Cardiff city centre when hundreds of ladies descend on the capital for Tŷ Hafan’s annual Midnight Sleep Walk on Friday 16 May.

More than 300 ladies have already signed up for the six-mile walk, starting from the Millennium Stadium at midnight.

The neon theme has been launched as a tribute to life-limited children and young people who brighten the lives of their families. On the night, each walker will receive a fun pack including flashing neon headwear and glow jewellery.

Many mums of the children and young people supported by Tŷ Hafan will be taking part in the event, including Kelly Matthews from Ystrad.

Kelly’s daughter, Willow, suffers from Central Hypoventilation and is connected to a ventilator 24 hours. The mum-of-one will give a talk on the night to share her Tŷ Hafan experiences.

“Tŷ Hafan has helped take away our stresses,” said Kelly. “Having that break helps us cope so we can carry on with the next few months. We don’t realise how stressed we’ve been until we’ve had that rest.”

Tŷ Hafan’s support has enabled Willow, aged two, to achieve more than she was ever expected to. She now plays, verbalises and is even starting to stand on her own.

“We are incredibly proud of Willow. She brings so much joy to our lives and it’s lovely to know everyone at Tŷ Hafan adores her just as much as we do,” said Kelly.

She added: “They are like stars in the sky. They are all really special to us and we want to do anything we can to show our support.”

Jessica Morgan from Tŷ Hafan said: “We need to raise more than £3.5m each year to provide care and support to hundreds of families across Wales. The new neon theme has generated lots of excitement and we are urging more ladies to register so they can enjoy a fantastic night whilst helping to raise vital funds so we can continue supporting life-limited children and their families.”

Registration is £10 per person and a £20 group discount is available to groups of five or more.
